Early Iron Age bronze socketed axe
Small mouth, face and non-loop side fragment. Long mouth and prominent rounded mouth moulding with no second lower moulding present. Face edge and mouth corners are curved, the mouth having a sub-rectangular plan. Probable face rib visible and extending from beneath the mouth moulding, indicating a deep mouth from front to back. A slight change in angle on the inner break edge, suggests the original front back depth of the mouth was perhaps only 5-10 millimetres greater than the surviving width of 30.4mm.
