Seal impression: York Episcopal
A seal of elaborate design ; the Blessed Virgin holding her Child, seated under a canopy, between (in canopied niches) dext. 1 (outer) St Andrew with his cross (for the bishop's former see of Wells), 2 (inner) St Peter; sin. 1 (inner) St Paul (SS Peter and Paul for Bath) , 2 (outer) St William or St Peter of York. Above, in a niche, God the Father supporting his crucified son; to either side two archbishops holding their primatial cross, perhaps SS Chad and Oswald or St John of Beverley. In base, under an arch, the archbishop kneeling in prayer, and holding his primatial cross; to either side a shield : dext. SEE OF YORK (Modern; as E75), sin. three stags' heads embossed, BOWET.
