Jones, Hannah (Housekeeper at Plas Trefaldwyn, Montgomery)
Prodded mat made by Hannah Jones, a housekeeper at Plas Trefaldwyn in mid-Wales, late 1800s
Prodded mat. It has a central red diamond motif, surrounded by four red circles on its front. Predominantly grey, navy and black fabrics surround these red motifs. The rags are prodded through a base fabric of hessian. The mat also has a lining of hessian fabric. The rags largely consist of wool (plain and pattern weaves, flannel, twills) a stockinet fabric with a pile on one side, but there are also some cottons.
