Goffering box
Pritchard, David (David Pritchard was born 1818 and died 1877. Originally from Anglesey or Bangor (census details vary), he worked in Liverpool until around 1850. By 1851 he had settled in Bangor, listed as a blacksmith. In 1861 his occupation was termed as whitesmith, while from around 1862 he is recorded as working for the Penrhyn Slate Quarry and Port as Blacksmith (Records: Port Smithy Accounts 1862-65), Gwynedd Archives, Caernarfon Record Office). The 1871 census records lists him a s a blacksmith.)
Goffering box made by David Pritchard. Although th exact date of maunfacture of the goffering iron is unknown, he would have had access to a lathe for the brasswork and contacts with a foundry for the cast iron base.
Two parallel brass cylinders on a turned brass column, screwed into a cast iron moulded base.
