LINEN, embroidered with coloured wools in cross, satin and eyelet stitches. At the top, in five horizontal rows, are the letters of the alphabet, twice-repeated, numerals to 16, and the proverb "A Friend in need is a Friend indeed". Below are various conventional floral, tree, animal, bird and geometric designs. At the bottom is the inscription: "Elvira Rees her Work aged 11 years / in the year of our Lord 1839. Taybach." There is a border of a wavy stem with strawberries. Worked at Glyn Taff School, near Pontypridd, Glamorganshire.
