Spade
Iron implement which originally had a wooden handle, missing when donated, which fitted into a socket at the top. A shaft extends from the socket, tapering towards the head of the tool, which is in the shape of a small spade or scoop, with curved sides. The surfaces are bumpy and not at all smooth. The donor did not know its precise use. It was possibly used as a type of root grubber, to dig out the roots of weeds. (GB 12/08/10)
