Plate, the centre painted with a dark brown medallion bearing a fictive shell cameo portrait, identified as the lyric poet Archilochus on the raised gilt border; the blue du roi underglaze blue rim veined to simulate lapis lazuli and flecked with gilding, outer border of wave scrolls with a gilt line, inner border of stiff leaves and berries, the white cavetto with a gilt band of flutes and dots.
