Seal impression: Paltinate of Durham
Equestrian: the bishop (as leader of the palatinate in time of war) on a horse galloping to observer's left, in armour with sword, his helm has for crest, a mitre arising from a ducal coronet, and from the mitre ? a plume of feathers. His shield and horse caparisons bear the arms of HATFIELD, a chevron between three lions rampant. (Slight vertical lines between the words of the legend may have been the engraver's spacing marks as in his Great Seal, E167, above).
