S.S. ANNE THOMAS of Cardiff (painting)

Witham, Joseph (Born 1832 in Bognor Regis, the son of a cabinet maker. He initially earned his living as a mariner and his early love of the sea remained with the artist throughout his life.)

Port view of the S.S. ANNE THOMAS at sea. She is seen here off the north coast of Anglesey, awaiting a pilot to guide her into Liverpool. Signed bottom left.

The ANNE THOMAS was the second vessel built to the order of Evan Thomas, Radcliffe & Co. Ltd., Cardiff, where the vessel was registered. She was completed in 1882 at Palmers' Shipbuilding & Iron Co. Ltd.’s famous yard at Jarrow on the Tyne. Sold to Norwegian owners in 1905, she continued to trade until 1920.

My great grandfather John Wigley (of Cardigan) served on the SS Anne Thomas from Oct 1895 to Jan 13, 1896. I am in possession of the original Certificate of Discharge together with a character reference signed by the Master, Owen? Jenkins. Have you got any further information regarding the vessel and in particular any information regardingthe voyages undertaken during this period. If not, would you be able to guide me in the right direction to glean further information
