Figure entitled the Old English Gentleman, identified by Pugh as Benjamin Franklin, white earthenware, crackle glaze, irregular circular base inscribed in gilt script. Figure in black shoes, white stockings and breeches, frock coat, long waistcoat with rubbed gilt detailing, pink/purple necktie, long grey wig, blue eyes. Figure standing on turquoise blue ground rising at right to form a support, right leg bent forward, right arm hanging down and holding a white piece of paper inscribed in black, left arm also hanging down and pressing black hat aginst hip.
