Roman stone quern
The central spindle hole tapers from a diam. of 45 mm. to one of 30 mm; it does not penetrate the full depth of the stone. Nearly half of a lower stone. The coarser particles (mostly <10mm) are to be found on the grinding surface, which is at approx. 15 degrees to the bedding plane. The well-defined grinding surface shows only moderate wear.
