Roman pottery flagon
Orange-buff ware with remains of orange slip. Mouth and handle missing, with remains of applied heart shaped ornament at the junction of the latter with the wall. A copy of the bronze ewer as Curle, Newstead, Pl. LXI, a form which was frequently imitated in pottery. Cf. May, Carlisle Pottery, Pl. XIII, 177 and York Pottery Pl. XVI, 2, the latter a more elaborate form.
