S.S. GWENT, half hull ship model

Hall hull ship model of the iron screw steamer S.S. GWENT.

S.S. GWENT. Cargo ship (weight 603 tons) built by E. Withy and Co.,West Hartlepool, and launched on 18 May 1878. Built for Messrs. Davies, Edwards and Herbert of Newport (Mon) and owned by the company until 1886 when she was sold into Norwegian ownership. Under the ownership of S.L.Christie of Bergen, on 18 July 1908 the S.S. GWENT ran aground at Langanes on a voyage from Leith to Seydisfjord, carrying coal. Official number 1076320.
