Roman iron tumbler lock bolt
Fragment of the bolt plate of a tumbler lock with four diamond shaped slots for the key. One of the arms is missing but the other has a small eyelet suggesting it falls into Mannings Type 1 category where the bolt is moved by pulling an attached string (1985, p89). No other iron examples are known from Wales but Roman copper alloy bolts were found at Brecon Gaer (25.212[3]), Holt (Grimes 1930, p127) and Segontium (Casey and Davies 1993, p178, no.109).
