School blazer
Plain green blazer of fulled (raised nap) wool with three patch pockets and one internal breast pocket (proper right) with black metal and plastic zip fastener. Outer breast pocket (proper left) is embroidered with seahorse and school motto in white thread (details picked out in green thread, both threads = Z-twist). Both inner and outer chest pockets are lined with black tabby-woven cellulosic fabric (other pockets are unlined).
Three green plastic buttons down centre front plus single button hole on proper left lapel (un-cut); plain long sleeves lined with white tabby-woven synthetic fabric and shortened at wrist (turned inwards by c. 2.5cm and secured to white lining on inside with coarse hand-stitched overcast stitches using clear monofilament (Nylon?) thread) Wide inner facing extending from centre front opening to several centimetres beyond the sleeve opening and 16.5cm down the upper back. The facing itself has a lining of black non-woven sythetic fabric. The shoulder seams are reinforced with a white wadding material as well as with Polyurethane? foam. Lower edge of blazer has a c. 3cm stitched single turn back. In addition to two side seams there are underarm darts which peter out in the area of the hip pockets. Two 33.5cm long sections of a 2.8cm wide inner belt have been stitched to inside at waist level: starting at both side seams and reaching around where they are held by the stitches attaching the upper corners of the patch pockets. Upper and lower edges have small stitched turnbacks. The ends are cut off diagonally and are unfinished. A length of grey thread (Z-twist) remains c. 4-5cm in from each end and the fabric is slightly flattened, both of which suggesting that the ends will probably have been stitched to another length of fabric, perhaps with a fastening mechanism at the end. Seam allowances on inside and edges of facing are bound with a c. 1cm wide grey synthetic tape. Seams are machine stitched using black and green thread as well as short sections of red thread (shoulder seams/under arm).
On the inside of the blazer, a grey cotton twill tape (width: 1.2cm) is held in place by the stitches securing the outer chest pocket (outer upper corner); the other end is held by the stitches joining the proper left sleeve to the blazer (under arm). Woven and inscribed manufacturer's label on inner centre back neck attached along both side edges with machine zigzag stitches using white thread (Z-twist). Smaller white label printed with black ('Size 18') held on inside by proper right side seam. Printed white numbers have been found on reverse of green fabric (e.g. near the end of the belt, proper left). 6.5cm long strip of pale purple cotton twill tape (width = 0.7cm) machine-stitched to inner centre back neck for hanging blazer using purple thread (Z-twist). Circular magnet (diameter = 2cm, height = 0.7cm) with white inscribed plastic top (now mainly chipped off, less than 1/4 remaining, inscription not decipherable) and remains of black eraser 1.8 x 1.5 x 0.8 found in pocket.
