Newport Docks, glass negative
Discharging heavy machinery from an unidentified ship's hold at Newport Docks. The machine is a 'United' self-propelled ingot car for the steel industry at Port Talbot. It is electrically driven through underneath pickups and can carry slab ingots up to 29-tons each. It has separate drive for both front and back wheels from two 100/200hp 485/970rpm motors and has a travelling speed of 466 to 932 feet per minute. Tilting of the chair is effected electrically and transfer of the ingot from the tilted chair to the mill's receiving table is made by two powered rollers.
