Oysters
SCHOLDERER, Otto (1834 - 1902)
Although Scholderer was born and trained in Germany, and would have painted this work while he was living in Britain, it was French art which influenced him most. This simple arrangement of oysters, a lemon and a glass of white wine can be compared to still lifes by Edouard Manet and Henri Fantin-Latour whom he befriended during a stay in Paris in 1857.
