Jug, porcelain, spreading foot with moulded ridge above, ovoid body with a band of spiral fluting round the middle part, cylindrical neck with thickened rim, plain spout, simple scroll handle with thumbrest and lateral ridge; underglaze blue transfer-printed decoration comprising a crest of a tower crowned by a wreath on the front and repeated on a smaller scale on each side of the neck, below the spout the inscription, 'MAJORITY of 44 / IN the YEAR / 1796', on each side the inscription, 'HONOUR and HONESTY, / IOHN HILL for EVER, / PROSPERITY to THE / HOUSE of HAWKSTONE.'
