Jug or pot, buff earthenware with coloured lead glazes, pewter foot rim, tall conical body, predominantly decorated with yellow panels alternating with striped columns of cobalt blue and white tin-glaze edged with turquoise green bands, broad band above foot applied with wreathed putto head medallions interspaced with squares of saltires and chevrons in white, blue, manganese and turquoise, another below the lip, similar, with medallions between squares containing manganese and white triangles; applied at the front with a crowned coat of arms, quarterly, barry of three, blue and white, and a lion rampant, manganese on yellow, within an oval wreathed cartouche, probably for the Count Palatine, a white column edged with blue behind, two oval portrait medallions on each side, all of 1/2 length male figure in late 16th century dress; loop handle; shallow pewter cover, hinged with a shell thumbpiece.
