Seal impression: Monastic
Arranged in the form of a reredos. In upper storey: Our Lord on the Cross flanked by His Mother and St John; in side niches, a kneeling angel swings a censer. In middle storey: the prior with pastoral staff; in side niches, dext. St Peter with his key, sin. St Paul grasping a sword. In lower storey: five monks in prayer; to either side kneel dext. Lord Thomas Wake (founder), sin. his lady; above a rectangle, and in the base, a shield: WAKE (supra). Background diapered lozengy with small quatrefoils. Cusped border ornamented with small crosses and trefoils. The legend makes this one of the earliest examples of a dated seal.
