Recordiad clyweledol / Audio-visual recording: Dr Grace Kerry

Oral history recording with Dr Grace Kerry, born in Nigeria and a Commonwealth citizen. Recorded as part of Race Council Cymru’s Windrush Cymru Heritage Project.

“It is a feeling that I’m giving something positive back to society.”

Dr Grace Egbolum Kerry was born in Nigeria and is a Commonwealth citizen.

“I’m the Founder and Executive Director of Gift of Grace Education Project, which is operational in Nigeria. (www.giftofgraceproject.org).”

“I chose a career in education and obtained a Ph.D in Special Educational Needs from the University of Wales Cardiff in 1985.”

“I was a secondary school teacher in Bristol from 1989 until 1992, an ESOL advisory teacher in Gwent (secondary and primary schools) and a member of the Schools Inspection team from 1992 until 1997. Racism in the work place was ever present but tolerated.”

“I was an Open University lecturer from 1991 until 1999 and a language tutor at the Parade Language Centre in Cardiff from 2000 until 2004.”

“I am Peace Ambassador for the Universal Peace Federation (UPF ).”

“My career was distinguished for my persistent focus on quality and efficiency and genuine care of people. I would like to think I have nurtured, inspired, motivated and encouraged young people and adults to achieve great things.” “I love the UK because it has been my home for over fifty years and I have made many good friends here. Despite some difficult experiences I have faced over the years, my family and I have thrived in the UK and are happy.”

“I have two main passions in life: 1. Educating children, (especially girls) because “ONLY THE EDUCATED ARE FREE” and 2. Feeding children because “HEALTH IS WEALTH.”

“For a fairer world: do unto others as you would like them to do unto you.”
