Pot-lid, earthenware, circular shape with cylindrical flange and convex top, the flange and underside of the lid partially obscurerd by the frame; the upperside of the lid decorated with an underglaze polychrome transfer-print of 'Dr. Johnson', showing the figure of Dr. Johnson seated in an Eighteenth Century interior setting with further seated male figures behind him, around the bottom of the scene is the inscription "DR. JOHNSON", the insciption partially obscured by the frame, any border which may enclose the print is obscured by the frame. The pot-lid mounted for display in a close-fitting circular wooden frame painted black.
