Snuff box
Silver snuff box, given to a Cardiff surgeon for his work during the 1849 cholera outbreak. Oval shaped with scroll pattern at the edges. Lion and anchor motif on lid. Gilt coating on inside. Hallmarked Birmingham, 1847. Two repair marks on lid. Inscribed "Presented by the inhabitants of the Old Sea Lock to J. R. Reece Esq, Surgeon, for his attention & skill during the prevalence of the cholera, Cardiff 1849".
