Teapot
Earthenware teapot and cover, 'Stylecraft' shape: foot ring, boxy appearance, with curved corners and slightly bulging sides, rectangular handle tapering at either end, thick short spout barely rising above level of body, flat shoulders, circular shallow-domed cover, rectangular handle tapering at either end and with steam hole behind. Cream coloured glaze, pooled on top of spout, around handles, and around rims, crackled especially on cover and around spout. Transfer-printed in black on either side with a French street scene by Hugh Casson, featuring a Cafe / Bar, with a waiter, and customers sitting at outside tables. Details picked out in pale blue, red and yellow enamels: red and white striped awning, blue sign with yellow surround, blue windows, yellow foliaged tree to left, yellow sigh inscribed PAL to right etc. Manufacturing flaw in handle, inside tea stained.
