Roman copper alloy disc brooch, enamelled
Umbonate disc brooch with hollow behind. The outer edge of the brooch is almost wholly torn away except for one portion at the tip of the catchplate where there is a projecting roundel. The perimeter of the brooch may have carried further such roundels. The umbo is encircled by a groove and a rib of copper alloy beyond which the extant remnant of the flange is plain. The umbo carries elaborate enamel ornament with a central motif of four conjoined petals with a circular cell at the centre. Set within the field between the petals are four roundels. Only part of the catchplate of the hinged pin remains.
