Jug

Haynes, George, & Co., Cambrian Pottery, Swansea (1800-1802)

Jug, pearl-glazed earthenware, swelling shoulder, straight neck, plain spout and handle, printed in underglaze brown, inscription SAML & GRACE / CALLEY / 1801 on spout, different Pillement vignette on either side of Chinese figures ('the precarious Chinaman'), fencing, flowers and foliage; dense band of Chinese style decoration around neck, predominantly diaper under swags of husks, further border inside rim of foliage, geometrical patterning and small medallions with birds and of foliage along back of handle, brown enamel rim.
