Slate slab pool table base
A rectangular slate slab which was used as a base/bed for a pool table (also known as pocket billiards). Six half circle shaped holes have been cut out of the slab for use as pockets - one at each corner of the slab (for use as corner pockets), and one at the midpoint of each of the longer sides (for use as side pockets). The slab would then be covered in billiard felt. Circular polishing marks can be seen on the slab’s surface.
