Plate, hard-paste porcelain with footring, cushion-moulded profile with outturned flange and plain rim; painted at the centre in overglaze red, pink and black enamels and gilt with the arms of Talbot, probably for Charles Talbot (1685-1737) of Hensol, Glamorgan, surrounded by a circle and pendant border in red enamel and gilt, the well with four evenly spaced flowers in in blue, green, red and black enamels and gilt in reserves with lobed frames, with a surrounding trellis pattern with flowers and quatrefoils in red enamel and gilt, on the flange at 12 o'clock is an armorial crest, there are large and small sprays of flowers, foliage and fruit around the flange, the rim is embellished with a border of stylised flowers in red enamel and gilt, on the underside are four sprigs of stylised flowers in red enamel.
Commissioned in China, this plate is decorated with the arms of Talbot, probably for Charles Talbot (1685-1737) of Hensol, Glamorgan.
