Swimming pool designed by Alain Capeilleres. Le Brusc, Var, France
In her portraits and documentary photographs, Martine Franck focused on women, artists and peripheral communities as she sought to explore the human condition. Her work is characterised by her humanity and respect for her subjects. In this black-and-white photograph, we see several women relaxing on the decking of a sculptural pool in the south of France – some of them gently exercising or chatting, others just enjoying feeling the sunlight on their skin. The image captures the beautiful, spontaneous moments of daily life and the health and wellbeing benefits of relaxation.
