Haynes, Dillwyn & Co., Cambrian Pottery (1802 - 1810)

Novelty pipe, pearl-glazed earthenware, complex tubular form, the stem and mouthpiece twisted into a figure of eight, the body formed of a four concentric coils with a flat panel in front of the bowl stem, the outer coil inscribed Mr.G.NORTHCOOT TAYLOR & STAYS. MAKER. Barnstable 1809 in brown, the inner coil terminating in three adjacent smaller coils, the bowl stem twisted into a figure of eight, the front of the bowl moulded with a figure of man with an hour glass, the reverse with a man with dove; underglaze blue and enamel decoration - the flat panel painted with a man standing in front of a stool cutting cloth with shears, and wearing yellow britches, blue coat and brown top hat, the mouthpiece and stems painted blue, the outer ring painted with blue and yellow dots, second ring with blue and orange leaves, the third with orange and green dots, the innermost with blue and yellow dots, the upper of the concentric rings painted yellow, the figures on the pipe bowl painted blue.
