Roman samian bowl
4 samian bowl sherds, form Dr37. S17 is a worn pink fabric with the remains of a good red gloss. Long slender gadroons. Southern Gaulish. S19 is very worn but was originally a thin and hard fabric in a deep orange/pink colour with a reddish slip. Central Gaulish. The ovolo is of CINNAMUS. There is a part of a figure of a small Venus with arms raised (Oswald 281). S20 is a good pinkish ware with a smooth glossy orange/red slip that is now worn and rubbed. S21 is a large Central Gaulish sherd of a rather thin dark orange/red fabric with a glossy brownish slip.
Dr 37 is a hemispherical decorated bowl

Notes: Field adjoins the south-west side of the legionary fortress : 'A' material is from Courtyard House (Civil Settlement). Context: cutting DY (E half). Occupation - early and later, including unstratified.
