S.S. CITY OF BARCELONA, glass negative
Port broadside view of S.S. CITY OF BARCELONA at Cardiff Docks.
Built 1930 by Barclay, Curle & Co., Glasgow, for Ellerman City Lines, Glasgow. She was built as a passenger-cargo ship and was equipped with an exhaust-steam powered turbo coupled with an electric drive as well as the usual quadruple expansion reciprocal steam engine. A 125-ton heavy lift derrick on her foredeck enabled her to transport seven Vulcan steam locomotives to India on her maiden voyage. She was broken up at Antwerp, Belgium, in May 1958.
