Fire surround
Carved slate fire surround from Dyffryn Ogwen, north Wales. Comprising of three sections: two vertical pilasters and a horizontal panel; carved with mixture of geometrical patterns (cirlces, 'daisy wheels'' and rectangless topped with half-round arches) and semi-relasistic vines an leaves.
Quarrymen took great pride in their ability to work slate. They did it in the very little spare time they had. They often made useful and beautiful objects for the home.
