Wedgwood, Josiah, and Sons Ltd (1795 to present)
Mug, cream-coloured earthenware, inset base, straight sides ad ridged loop handle; decorated with to the front of the body an American eagle in black and gilt holding laurel branches and arrows beneath its talons and bearing in its beak two scrolling gilt and black banners on which are painted the dates '1776' and '1976', the eagle is flanked on either side by the original Union flag of the USA and the modern flag of the USA both in red and blue, radiating out from behind the eagle a pattern of dotted gilt lines, a motif of arrows in gilt beneath the handle, borders of gilt stars around the upper and lower body, a gilt line around the lip-rim, the handle painted with stripes of gilt and black.
