Dish, earthenware, circular shape, standing on a spreading waisted foot with lobed foot-rim, curving sides and spreading rim, a raised edge to the well, eight notches and lobes to the rim, to either side of the rim twin horizontal loop handles modelled in the form of a spray of foliage, one of the handles broken off and missing; transfer-printed in blue with the 'Damask border' pattern, to the centre of the well a scene showing two figures standing in an Italianate landscape with trees, an aquaduct, a distant village and mountains, to the rim and extending down the sides of the well a wide border with a watered blue ground between a band of small scrolls and a band of foliate scrolls enclosing small panels with figures and animals, a scaled-down version of this border to the foot, the exterior sides of the dish and to the handle.
