Plate, warming

South Wales Pottery

Plate warmer, earthenware and pewter, in the form of an earthenware plate with flat well, curving sides, spreading rim and a slightly raised edge around the well, let into a hollow pewter base with flat base and curving sides flaring out to the rim, to either side of the plate warmer twin narrow horizontal loop pewter handles, to the front of the plate warmer a short pewter spout capped by a screw cover; the plate transfer-printed in grey transfer with to the centre of the well and around the rim floral sprays partially in-filled in red, orange, yellow and green, the five sprays to the rim enclosed by flow blue scrolling cartouches which spread down onto the well and are onrnamented with red scrolls and green foliage, a flow blue band around the rim, the cartouches and the band around the rim heightened with yellow to imitate gilt.
