Bellarmine

Bellarmine, of pale-grey stoneware, standing on a narrow raised foot integral to the body, the body, bulbous, the neck narrow, long and slightly tapered ending in a cordoned rim; loop handle with central groove and elongated lower terminal; the exterior covered with a patchy iron-brown wash, a rich dense chestnut tone in patches, in other areas, a pale thin honey-brown with the grey stoneware body extensively exposed beneath; the whole with a clear salt-glaze giving a mottled 'orange-peel' appearance.
