EMPIRE CONYNGHAM (1408gt) : Built 1899 as MARIE by Neptun AG, Rostock, Germany, for Flensburger Dampfschiff Gesselschaft, Flensburg, managed by H. Schuldt. 1923 – Sold to Ozean Dampschiff AG, and renamed NORBURG. 1925 – Sold to the Latvian Government and renamed GAUJA. 1941 – Captured by the German Kriegsmarine in the Baltic Sea, and renamed FRIEDRICH, managed by Otto Wiggers of Rostock. 1945 – Seized by the Allies and renamed EMPIRE CONYNGHAM under the ownership of MoWT. She was scuttled in the Bay of Biscay with a cargo of obsolete bombs in June 1949. (Wikipedia)
