Vase, hard-paste porcelain, standing on a square base, urn-shaped body with spreading pedestal foot, bulbous shoulder, narrow neck and wide flaring mouth, a collar-like projection around the shoulder, to either side of the body twin winged and crowned caryatid handles; the middle of the exterior body covered with a salmon coloured ground against which is reserved to the front of the vase an elaborate lobed panel painted in polychrome enamels with a classical scene showing a seated female figure clad in flowing draperies in a garden setting with trees, a stone wall and a statue, with a kneeling male figure next to her, the scene enclosed by a gilt border, to the other side of the body the salmon ground is overpainted in gilt with an elaborate floral motif and sprays of flowers and foliage, the base, foot, lower body, shoulder, neck and mouth all covered with a gilt ground against which decoration is reserved in white with around the foot a border of shells and scrolling foliate motifs, around the shoulder a wide border of stylized scrolling leaves and anthemions, and around the neck a border of winged horses with elaborate floral and foliate motifs, the handles painted in gilt with leaves reserved in white, a wide gilt band around the interior lip-rim.
