Tureen with cover
Tureen, earthenware, standing on a spreading waisted rounded foot, bulbous body sloping inwards at the shoulder to a concave cylindrical neck with everted lip-rim, to either side of the body twin horizontal loop handles with spurs to either side of the handle and foliate moulded terminals, round domed cover with a semi-circular indent to the rim at one side, to the top of the cover a loop handle as those on the tureen; transfer-printed in blue with to either side of the exterior body of the tureen 'The Hog at Bay' pattern, a hunting scene showing figures on horseback with spears and dogs attacking a boar against an Indian landscape with palm trees and figures on an elephant in the distance, the top of the cover printed with the 'Hunting a Buffalo' pattern, a hunting scene showing figures on elephants pursuing a long-horned buffalo against an Indian landscape with palm trees, border to the foot of the tureen and the rim of the cover of a tropical landscape with numerous different animals and birds, including a tiger and a bear, a border of white foliage on a blue ground to the interior lip-rim of the tureen, the handles on the tureen and cover decorated with a pattern of tendrils of white foliage on a dark blue ground.
