Blaengwawr Colliery, photograph
Blaengwawr Colliery screens, illustrating the method of supplying concessionary coal to the miners. The coal was tipped over and down a set of steel bars [1]? inch apart and was known as 'Billy Fair Play' ; the large coal was loaded into carts and taken by horse and tipped outside the miners home. The boy on the right appears to be enjoying his early days as a helper.
