Roman iron bolt head
The standard ballista (catapult) bolt throughout the Roman period was a socketed pyramidal iron head on a wooden shaft. This is a large, heavy example. There is now hardly any shoulder between the point and the socket, but this may be, at least in part, the result of corrosion.
