Ray, George (1812 - after 1861)
Jug, red brown earthenware, exterior with copper lustre glaze, the interior coated with pearl-glazed white slip; standing on a rounded foot rim, tapering cylindrical body press-moulded on each side a couple in romantic Highland or Tyrolean dress, dancing the Polka, amid folliate scrolls, some picked out in blue enamel, waved and moulded lip turning up to a folded spout, ear-shaped handle with rolled thumbpiece and scrolled ornament; patent registration diamond sprigged onto the base, but obscured by the lustre glaze.
