Seal impression: Durham
Under a canopy formed by a church-like building with central spire and supported by carved shafts, a bishop in pontificals holding up his right hand in blessing, grasping his pastoral staff (crook turned outwards) obliquely across his left shoulder with his left hand, and supporting on his left arm the crowned head of the martyred King Oswald, Above the canopy, to either side of the spire, dext. An estoile of six points wavy, sin. A crescent. In field, to either side, a shield: three lions passant guardant, ENGLAND,, ensigned with a mitre. In base a shield, a cross fimbriated, CITY OF DURHAM.
