Iron Age red deer bone
Red deer femur shaft fragment with fresh fractures and fine cut marks
A femur fragment of a red deer with evidence for butchery (fresh fractures and fine cut marks on the posterior aspect of the distal portion, running diagonally tothe long axis of the bone shaft) recovered during archaeological excavations at Nant Hall Road, Prestatyn, Denbighshire. The bone was recovered from a shell midden with associated with radiocarbon dates of the late 5th millennium BC.
