Cup and saucer
Cup and saucer of soft-paste porcelain, the cup standing on a straight sided foot rim, indented immediately above, curved spreading sides ending in everted lip rim; kidney handle looped high above lip rim; the saucer standing on a flat, unglazed base with clear concentric ring marks, with rounded spreading sides; the cup freely painted on the exterior with small floral motifs in gilt, one sprig with flower shapes and leaves, one flowerhead and two leaves, one foliage only, the sides of the interior with a border consisting of four panels, two with an urn on a tall, scrolling pedestal in underglaze blue, spouting flames in gilt and red, flanked by two phoenix style birds in olive green, perched in pink and red willows; one with caillouté gilding of underglaze blue and green supported by three wreathed ionic columns; one with an imari style flower in gilt on an iron red ground, with an imari style flower in iron red forming a central motif to the base, gilding to foot rim, lip rim, the handle and forming outline of the interior panels; the saucer decorated with the urn and phoenix design as the central motif, surrounded by a border consisting of three panels containing the caillouté gilding supported by columns and three smaller panels containing imari style flowers, gilt band to outer rim and around central motif.
