Photograph (print)
Three workmen photographed in the act of erecting a "pair" of timber in their stall or face roadway. By the number of timbers erected it seems as if the road was under some roof pressure and the men are replacing a broken set. The notching can be seen quite clearly in the lower pair of timber below the elbow of the man on the right. Two steel forks are used to support the two uprights or "arms" while the horizontal beam or "collar" is being raised into place. Provenance unknown.
