Spill vase
Dillwyn & Co., Cambrian Pottery (1811 - 1817 and 1824 - 1850)
Spill-vase, earthenware, standing on a spreading pedestal foot, rounded, globular lower body, cylindrical neck, flaring to end in a wide mouth with everted lip rim; transfer printed with 'split' prints in black; on the lower body, a large striped shell surrounded by scrolling foliage, a large single bloom issuing from a banded scrolling ribbon and a similar motif with two large flower heads; on the upper body, an arrangement of shells within a floral and foliate cartouche and a larger floral arrangement, repetition of the floral motif and the large shell to the interior; heart and loop dentil border to exterior lip rim.
