Letter
A letter from A. H. Lee (N.M.W., Cardiff, sent from Haverfordwedt) to Dr W. Evans Hoyle ref. the Pembrokeshire custom of hanging a bunch of corn - 'I saw it hanging in the kitchen of a cottage at Newton the other day and the old lady stated that she always gathered some at Harvest time and kept it until the next Harvest came round, when she got a new lot. The idea, of course, was to ensure a plentiful supply of bread during the year. She did not burn the bunch of corn when she got a new one (as Mr. Lovett said was usually done with "Corn babies") but let the birds have it'. [1915]
