Roman pottery lamp
Fragmentary volute lamp. Slightly raised, falt base. Discus: five cupids playing with Hercules' gear: one drinks from his cup and the others try to lift his club; it probably bore the inscription ADIVATE SODALES (help comrades) on the upper left side of the scene. This is a very commonly found figure type, but one which normally occurs on lamps of Loeschcke Type IV. A fragment in the Museum of London with this scene is of the same fabric as the Usk lamp and may therefore, be from a lamp of Loeschcke Type IB.
